City shaken by gruesome murder, dismembered woman's body scattered

On May 12, 2019, the coastal city of Mangaluru, Karnataka was horrified by the discovery of one dismembered Woman's body found in different parts of the city. The first shocking discovery came when a fruit seller named Somesh found a woman's head in a bag on National Highway 66. The victim was identified as 39-year-old Shrimathi Shetty, a local resident who ran a petty cash store and an electronics store.

Body parts unearthed in Mangaluru

After the head was discovered, more grim reports were received by the Mangaluru police. A torso partially eaten by stray dogs was found near a Christian cemetery. The following day two legs were discovered on the side of the road. All parts were sent to Wenlock District Hospital for a post mortem.

At the same time, Kishore Shetty reported his sister Shrimathi missing. When he was shown her remains, he confirmed the victim's identity.

Multiple suspects, no clear leads

The initial investigation focused on Shrimathi's estranged husband and her lover Sudeep, who was already in prison for theft. However, both men were acquitted after thorough questioning. The police then focused on her company and its employees, but found no clues. Examination of her daily routine and phone records revealed a new twist.

CCTV breakthrough points to murderer

After checking over 100 surveillance cameras across the city, police found a critical two-second clip. Shrimathi was seen talking to a man on a two-wheeler near Sooterpete on May 11. The man was identified as Jhonas Samson, a kebab seller who owed Shrimathi Rs 16,000.

Motive and arrest

On May 14, police visited Samson's home, where he attempted suicide but was rescued. During interrogation he confessed to the murder. Samson said Shrimathi publicly humiliated him in front of his wife Victoria Mathias and demanded repayment. In a fit of rage, he hit her with a wooden plank and killed her. He and his wife then dismembered the body and scattered the remains throughout the city.

Both Samson and Victoria were arrested, closing this disturbing case.
