The confrontation leads to a fatal knife attack in Beverly Hills

A confrontation turned deadly when a stabbing broke out in Beverly Hills on Saturday.

According to Beverly Hills police, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Spalding Drive around 2:50 p.m. after receiving calls reporting disturbances in the area.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a male subject suffering from a stab wound,” the statement said. “The male subject was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”

The man could not be identified as the investigation continued.

“The initial investigation indicates that a confrontation occurred between two male subjects,” BHPD investigators said. They also determined that the other person involved in the incident cooperated with their investigation.

Some witnesses and people living in the area say the confrontation may be related to a kidnapping or dognapping attempt, but police have not confirmed this information.

A man who attended the incident with his son spoke to KCAL News.

“I saw someone crossing who was holding a baby and appeared to be in an argument with another person,” said the man, who only wanted to be identified as Brian. “The baby had somehow fallen and tipped backwards.”

He said the attacker let the baby and the other person go and instead focused his attention on them.

“I told my son to get in the car, I rolled up the window but I forgot my back window was open,” he said. “My dog was in the back. He came through the back window and grabbed the dog.”

Brian and his son fought back and hit the man to release their dog as his car rolled onto the sidewalk.

“He finally let go and then he went over and banged on the windows of the house on the corner,” Brian remembers. “The people inside were scared and screaming.”

SkyCal flew over the scene, where a black mini-SUV was stopped on the curb in front of what looked like an apartment complex. The area was cordoned off with police tape while numerous officers conducted their investigation.

Police said the area will be closed for several hours as the investigation into the matter continues. They do not believe there is a threat to public safety.

“We are still determining who the suspect or victims are, it is an ongoing investigation,” said BHPD Detective Jeffery Newman.

Anyone who knows more is asked to contact BHPD.
