Four people were transported to the hospital in serious condition following the crash in Stonington

Four people are in hospital after being extricated from a car that collided with a corn truck in Stonington.

It happened Saturday afternoon on Route 184 at Taugwonk Road.

Stonington Police received calls about a two-vehicle collision just after 4 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found the SUV on its roof with four occupants trapped inside.

Mutual aid was requested from North Stonington and other EMS companies to assist with two rescues.

Stoning Police Deputy Todd Olson said an emergency helicopter was sent to the scene, but all four passengers were ultimately taken by ambulance to L&M Hospital.

All were admitted in serious condition.

Deputy Olson says at least two of the passengers sustained serious injuries and may be taken to Yale Hospital in New Haven.

Meanwhile, the driver of the agricultural truck remained uninjured and refused treatment.

“I see this all the time,” said Jose Miranda, a Stonington resident. “At least five times a year and it’s terrible. This light has been flashing yellow for years and I would love to see them turn it a full-fledged red.”

As reconstruction work continues here along Route 184, crews will be able to better understand the cause of the crash.

No word on the updated conditions for the SUV passengers.
