Northern California woman arrested in connection with dead infant found near road

(FOX40.COM) – A 29-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a newborn baby found on the side of the road earlier this week.

On Thursday, Lodi police responded to a call about a toddler near Tokay Street and Sacramento Street in San Joaquin County. When they arrived at the scene, officers said they found an unresponsive toddler. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation led to LPD arresting 29-year-old Kathryn Grace Copeland on Saturday. She was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on charges of alleged abandonment of a deceased newborn and other related charges.

“An incident like this can be difficult and bring up a wide range of emotions,” LPD said. “It not only affects our community, but also our first responders, including our officers, dispatchers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel. Please remember that there are multiple organizations and resources available to help those in need.”
