Vols in top 5, Sooners fall in college football rankings in Week 5

The top fifth of the AP Top 25 poll saw a very notable change following this weekend's active college football action, and there were other moves elsewhere in the new rankings as several teams lost in some head-to-head matchups Ranked teams.

Tennessee moved into the top five of the rankings after beating Oklahoma in its SEC debut, while Illinois benefited from poll movement after beating Nebraska on the road to emerge as a new Big Ten contender.

Elsewhere in the Sooner State, the Cowboys lost some votes after losing a home game to new Big 12 member Utah, and pollsters are looking at Michigan in a new light after that school played old-fashioned football in a statement win over USC has first Big Ten trip.

Washington State 67, Indiana 63, Boston College 55, UNLV 53, Pittsburgh 37, Nebraska 25, Iowa 24, James Madison 11, South Carolina 7, Liberty 4, Arkansas 3, UCF 3, Arizona 2, SMU 2, Navy 1.

BYU (was not ranked). The Cougars made it to Kansas State at home to remain undefeated.

Kansas State (minus-10). Conversely, the Wildcats plummeted in the polls after a poor game.

Illinois (up 5). After the win at Nebraska, there's a new team to keep an eye on in the Big Ten.

Missouri (Decline 4). Pollster penalizes Mizzou for playing close against Vanderbilt.

Michigan (up 6). The defending champions are gaining voters' trust after playing physical in a statement win against USC.

Oklahoma (minus 6 points). The Sooners will need to retool this offense quickly as they get pushed around by the Vols and fall into the clutches of a brutal SEC team.
