Student arrested after threatening to return home

The threat of a shooting at Salina Central High School's homecoming dance led to the arrest of a student Saturday night.

Salina police said they became aware of a threat against Central High School via social media. An immediate investigation was launched, which revealed that a 16-year-old Central High School student had made comments about “shooting everyone at this dance.” Further investigation by officials and school resource officers revealed that the “dance” was the Salina Central Homecoming dance.

USD305 and school officials were notified and the juvenile was located by officers outside of the school. The juvenile was arrested for criminal threats and taken to the Saline County Jail, where he was ultimately transferred to the Junction City Juvenile Detention Center.

Based on the investigation, there appears to be no further threat to Central High students or staff. The Salina Police Department values ​​the cooperation between the police department and district and school personnel in ensuring the safety of students and strives for prompt investigations and actions to ensure the safety of everyone.
