An eight-year-old boy has died after suffering “serious” injuries to his head and face when he was shot on a farm.

Cumbria Police said they were investigating the incident and were called to the farm in the Warcop area at around 2.50pm on Saturday.

They said they “received a report that a child had been seriously injured by a firearm on the property” and that police and North West Ambulance Service attended.

“The firearm was recovered at the scene by police and an eight-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital after suffering serious and life-threatening injuries to his head and face,” they said.
