Suspected fatal hit-and-run accident Saturday in Stockbridge, Massachusetts

One person has died following a hit-and-run accident in Stockbridge Saturday morning, according to the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

It happened around 6:44 a.m. when a passing motorist reported a person lying on the side of the road at about the 4.1 mile marker on Route 102, officials said.

When emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident, they found a defenseless man on the side of the road, according to authorities. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards by a Lee Ambulance paramedic.

Evidence collected so far, including parts of a car, suggests it may have been a hit-and-run, the DA's office said.

They said current evidence shows the victim was riding an electric scooter when he was struck by a motor vehicle and that the vehicle that struck the victim fled the scene.

Responding to the incident included members of the Stockbridge Police Department, Stockbridge Fire and EMS and Lee Ambulance.
