Funeral service for Greenburgh women killed in car accident

September 29, 2024

By Rick Pezzullo—

Funeral services will be held this week for the wife and daughter-in-law of Greenburgh City Councilman Francis Sheehan, who died in a fiery car crash in White Plains on Sept. 16.

Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects on the same day and at the same time to Millie Ortiz Sheehan, 70, and Diana Trochez Sheehan, 36, who were walking on Battle Avenue two weeks ago after apparently leaving two children in at the daycare center when Millie was apparently at the daycare center. She lost control of the electric Tesla she was driving, hitting a curb and a tree before crashing into a residential building.

Both women were found dead and seriously injured in the vehicle. The cause of the crash was not disclosed.

Visitation for both women will be Monday, September 30, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Hartsdale.

Millie Sheehan met her husband of 43 years in 1974 while working part-time at a computer company in Manhattan. She worked as a school psychologist in the Greenburgh School District for 30 years before retiring last year.

According to her obituary, her four grandchildren were the light of her life, and her warm, caring spirit touched her every day in a way that will forever shape her life. She was known for her endless patience, her warm hugs, her beautiful smile and her ability to listen to others and understand what they wanted to say.

She created a home full of love and laughter and was also a wonderful cook. Her meatballs were a family favorite, but she always made sure there was a stack of fresh pancakes waiting for her grandchildren before they left for school or daycare.

In addition to her husband Francis, Millie is survived by her mother Cruz Ortiz, her daughter Christine and her husband Brian Kane, her son Francis II and grandchildren Caiden (7), Saoirse (5), Aisling (2) and Kiernan (1).

Diana Sheehan met her husband, Francis X. Sheehan '11, while studying accounting at Binghamton University. They married in 2017 and have a son together, Kiernan.

Diana Trochez Sheehan

She worked as a senior accountant for CohnResznick and made many connections with colleagues who became like family and friends to her. You could always find her beautifully dressed with a smile on her face, ready to lend a listening ear.

In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by her mother Melba, her brother Christian, her father-in-law Francis Sheehan, her sister-in-law Christine and her husband Brian, her nephew Caiden, her nieces Saoirse and Aisling, and her beloved dogs Rusty and Sandy. and many valued friends.
