Roommates investigate man's death, suspected to be drug overdose

DENVER (KDVR) — Denver police arrested a 28-year-old man as part of a homicide investigation after officers responded to a possible drug overdose and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Denver police, officers were alerted to a medical emergency involving a possible drug overdose at 5225 N. Vasquez Blvd. around 10:30 p.m. Friday. informed. The address refers to a Triple A Motel.

According to the agency in Denver, first responders attempted life-saving medical assistance, but the victim, an adult male, died at the scene.

The coroner's office conducted an autopsy Saturday while investigating the death. Investigators found evidence that the victim had suffered injuries, including internal ones, that were “consistent with significant trauma.”

The injuries led police to arrest the victim's roommate on Saturday. Roommate Dakotah Lulei, 28, is being held pending investigation of second-degree murder and second-degree assault. The circumstances of the murder are still being investigated.

The victim's identity will be released in accordance with standard procedure of the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner, and the Denver District Attorney's Office will make the final charging decision.

No charges have been officially filed against Lulei, but he remained in police custody in Denver as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Denver Sheriff's Department.
