Videos: Homes, roads and more destroyed by hurricane in Tennessee, North Carolina

The devastating impact of Hurricane Helene is becoming increasingly clear as East Tennessee and Western North Carolina begin to assess the damage.

Homes, businesses, roads and bridges were destroyed by the strong winds and flooding that swept through the Appalachian region. For nearly a million residents, the road to recovery will be long and arduous.

“Tennessee farmland and the devastation facing hard-working farmers. Pray for the farmers. They work so hard, and many can't afford flood insurance, and virtually no one has hurricane insurance. #Helene took away their livelihood,” Jennifer Coffindaffer posted on X with footage of the devastation.

An X user shared a video showing Chimney Rock, North Carolina, “destroyed by a flash flood from the remnants of Hurricane Helene.” The popular tourist destination was almost completely washed away by the storm.

Media personality Collin Rugg shared additional footage of the aftermath of the flood at Chimney Rock.

“To give you an understanding of the devastation we're dealing with, Chimney Rock is gone,” a local filmmaker said, according to Rugg.

“27. September 2024 #Asheville, North Carolina, #USA Asheville's historic Biltmore Village was flooded after #Hurricane Helena. The Swannanoa River reached #flood levels not seen since 1791,” another X user posted shocking videos of the scene.

“New videos show the severe flooding caused by heavy rains in East Tennessee as Hurricane Helene came through. Drone footage from the Tennessee Valley Authority shows Nolichucky Dam this morning following the impacts of Hurricane Helene,” wrote X user John Cremeans. “TVA is monitoring the situation and says the hurricane brought more than 19 inches of rain to the area, resulting in flash flooding.”

Another shocking video posted on X shows “the most horrific debris flow video” in the region.

Additional videos show the storm's impact on Asheville, North Carolina.

“Incredulous – that’s the only way I can describe the flooding and damage caused by Tropical Storm Helene in Asheville. My condolences go out to everyone there – as they take steps to rebuild. This is never easy,” one X user wrote.

More horrific footage shows incredible flooding in Newport, Tennessee.

“SAVED! PETA’s rescue team discovered this frightened and abandoned dog on the porch of a flooded home in Lumberton, North Carolina, with no way to escape the rising floodwaters of #HurricaneFlorence, and was able to bring him to safety,” PETA wrote.

“Tropical Storm Helene has wreaked havoc in Asheville, North Carolina, where entire homes were seen floating away,” another X user wrote.
