19-year-old on his way to pick up his girlfriend was shot in a possible road rage shooting on the Katy Freeway

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Law enforcement and family members have identified a teenager who was shot Friday night while driving to pick up his girlfriend.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the fatal shooting occurred Friday night around 8 p.m. in the 23600 block of the Katy Freeway on the westbound service road near the Grand Parkway.

Family members say 19-year-old Cody Johnson was on his way to Katy to pick up his girlfriend when he was shot.

Officers responded to the scene and found Johnson outside his parked car, unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Johnson's family said he lives in Missouri City and graduated from Ridge Point High School in the spring. He was scheduled to start his new job on Tuesday. He also had a black Camaro that he loved.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the shooting may have resulted from a road rage incident. Investigators do not have a description of the shooter, but are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
