Hundreds of people were evacuated from the Suria KLCC mall following a fire alarm from a dumpster

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 – Chaos erupted at Suria KLCC mall yesterday as hundreds of shoppers were evacuated after a fire alarm was triggered at around 8.10pm.

The smoke rose from the food court area of the famous mall connected to the Petronas Twin Towers.

According to eyewitness reports, the motorcycle parking lot was filled with smoke, prompting rapid intervention by security personnel.

According to an official statement from Suria KLCC on Facebook, the Kuala Lumpur Fire Department arrived at the scene within minutes and located the source of the fire in an emergency staircase where boxes in a dumpster were burning.

The fire was extinguished at 8:45 p.m. and no injuries were reported, the statement said.

Shoppers reported their experiences online: A customer was interrupted during an omakase meal and another customer at a telecommunications store initially mistook the alarm for an exercise.

Despite initial confusion, mall management assured that safety was a top priority.

The statement also said the fire alarm was triggered by smoke at the rear of the home, but confirmed the smoke was contained in the stairwell.

To ensure the safety of all visitors, an evacuation was deemed necessary. The mall was declared reopened around 9:35 p.m. and resumed normal operations shortly thereafter.

This incident follows an earlier fire at Suria KLCC on May 1, which started from the sauna of a fitness center but was quickly contained without causing any injuries.
