Tesla bursts into flames in flooded garage in Florida after Hurricane Helene: Video

A Tesla burst into flames in a Florida garage flooded with salt water from Hurricane Helene, according to a stunning video released by officials as a warning to others.

The fire started under the electric ride and completely engulfed it in less than a minute, according to surveillance footage of the crowded garage, where thick smoke quickly filled the room.

Pinellas County government officials released the video Saturday to warn electric car owners to take action after the devastating hurricane hit parts of the Sunshine State, North Carolina and a handful of other southeastern states.

At least 91 people died in the storm, and the number is expected to rise.

The hurricane, which brought deadly winds and rains, devastated the region as authorities struggled to get water and other supplies to the area surrounded by dangerous flooding.

President Biden called the storm's power “breathtaking” and pledged to give affected states “everything we have” during recovery efforts.

Pinellas officials on Saturday urged electric car owners — and electric bike owners — to take precautions in light of the saltwater storm surge, including banning parking their car or bike in their home or garage and banning electric vehicles 50 feet from other flammable materials to move away.

The county also suggested having the car towed to a dealer to have it checked before driving it again after the storm.

Hurricane Helene hit the Florida coast Thursday evening as a Category 4 storm with winds of 140 miles per hour before sweeping across Georgia, the Carolinas and Tennessee, triggering hundreds of water rescues.

More than 2 million customers were still without power on Sunday night.
