Neighbors stunned by attack on Upper East Side

Most who spoke to CBS News New York call the area a good place to live and were stunned to hear what happened.

“This is normally a very safe area. I’ve lived here for over 20 years,” said neighbor Elga Casino. “In her home? In their home? Oh my God.”

“I'm a similar age, so it's definitely very concerning,” Upper East Side resident Taylor Hoekstra said.

“It's scary. “It’s just terrible what happened to her, but I hope they catch whoever he is,” Upper East Side resident Christine Jackson said.

Residents say they are paying more attention now than before.

“I’m really trying to stay present and not have my AirPods with me,” Hoekstra said.

“We women, we live near here, I have daughters. We come and go, come from work, go to work. This is terrible, now we really have to be extra careful,” Jackson said.
