Beyoncé announced SirDavis last month, writing in a press release that she had worked with Moët Hennessy for “years” to create the American whiskey that pays homage to her home state of Texas and her family.

“I have always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when I drink high-quality whiskey and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” she wrote in part in a statement.

The singer named the liqueur after her great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, who was a farmer and moonshiner in the South. She said that during Prohibition, Hogue “hid whiskey bottles in the empty branches of cedar trees” for his friends and family to find.

“When I found out my great-grandfather had been a moonshiner, it felt like my love for whiskey was fated,” Beyoncé added in the press release. “For me, SirDavis is a way to pay homage to him and unite us through a new shared heritage.”
