SAPD: Men arrested after series of taillight thefts

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police say they have arrested two men in connection with the taillight theft.

During a traffic stop, police say they found a dozen taillights in the SUV they were driving. San Antonio police say taillight thefts are on the rise.

According to San Antonio police, on July 10, 22-year-old Leonard Hernandez and 24-year-old Isaac Camacho were caught on home surveillance video stealing the taillights of a pickup truck on Roosevelt Avenue.

In the video, investigators say they were able to identify the license plate on Hernandez's Jeep, which police say was used in the theft. Police also say Camacho was the lookout while Hernandez stole the taillights.

On July 26, Hernandez was again captured on video stealing taillights, this time on the east side and south side of the Mission Del Lago subdivision, according to police.

Police were able to identify Hernandez's Jeep because there is a flock video system installed at the entrance to the neighborhood that records vehicles entering and leaving the neighborhood.

According to an arrest warrant, police were able to track Hernandez to his home later that day and began surveilling his home. As Hernandez walked to a gas station, he was stopped by police and Camacho was also in the vehicle.

According to police, they found drugs, a gun and a dozen taillights in the vehicle.

Police also say Hernandez was captured on police bodycam video during the arrest, which shows Camacho picked him up from the South Side earlier in the day and loaded the taillights into the trunk.

According to police, the taillights were valued at $4,000. Both Hernandez and Camacho are charged with theft of property.
