Cynthia Lanchester, killed in Easton, New Hampshire; Joshua Lanchester Arrested – NBC Boston

New details were released Sunday in the ongoing investigation into the murder of a 76-year-old woman who was allegedly killed by her grandson in a fatal hammer attack over the weekend in Easton, New Hampshire.

Attorney General John Formella announced the results of Cynthia Lanchester's autopsy Sunday evening, saying her cause of death was clearly blunt force trauma to the head and her manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Officials previously announced that Cynthia Lanchester's grandson, 23-year-old Joshua Lanchester, was arrested Saturday and charged with second-degree murder for recklessly killing her with a deadly weapon (a hammer).

Authorities have not yet revealed a motive in the case and say the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under ongoing investigation.

As investigators continue to examine the sequence of events surrounding Joshua Lanchester, the Attorney General's Office previously said responding state troopers first encountered him while responding to a 911 call for a medical emergency at 44 North Peak Drive at approximately 11:41 a.m responded

State police also found Cynthia Lanchester lying on the ground at that time, dead with what appeared to be a blunt trauma wound.

Joshua Lanchester is currently being held without bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in 2nd District Court – District Division in Littleton. It was not immediately clear whether he had found an attorney who could comment on the charges against him.
