A former New England Patriots player is denying allegations that he pushed an 82-year-old man to the ground during an argument over exercise equipment at Planet Fitness last month.

Retired NFL fullback Patrick Pass denied that the incident occurred Aug. 28 at the gym in North Providence, Rhode Island, when a reporter from local station NBC 10 asked him about the allegations at his home this week.

“Look at me, do you think I’ll do that? Really, please come,” Pass, 46, told the outlet. “I have better things to do than try to attack someone.”

Pass, who was a three-time Super Bowl champion alongside Tom Brady and the New England Patriots during his career, was charged with assault on a man over 60, according to NBC 10.

PEOPLE has reached out to North Providence Police for comment.

Juan Muriel, 82, told NBC 10 that his injuries left him “unable to walk, lie down and do nothing the next day” when he woke up.

“I felt like someone had pushed me for nothing,” the older man told the outlet. “I never touched him, nothing.”

According to the media, Pass is due back in court in January.
