White farmer in court for attempted murder of black boy (6) over stolen oranges

Watch live court in South Africa on Monday, September 30, where a white farmer is expected to appear on attempted murder charges after allegedly running over a six-year-old black boy.

Local media named 70-year-old Christoffel Stoman of Lutzville as being accused of running over the child who was allegedly stealing oranges from trees.

The six-year-old suffered two broken legs after he was allegedly run over by a truck.

Billy Claasen, spokesman for the Rural and Farmworkers Development Organization, told local media that at the time of the incident the child was traveling with his mother, who was uninjured.

Claasen told Daily Voice: “The farmer ran over the child. It is alleged that he saw the child and his mother by the side of the road near his farm and then drove over the child.”

“The child and his mother were taken to Vredendal Hospital and transferred to Paarl Hospital. It is confirmed that both of the child’s legs are broken.”
