BTS's Suga was fined over $11,000 for drunk driving an e-scooter

BTS member Suga has been fined 15 million KRW, about $11,468, by a Seoul court for his recent drunken incident with an e-scooter.

The Korea Herald reported that a Seoul Western District Court judge imposed the fine on Sept. 27 in a summary judgment, which is a legal decision made by a judge without a full trial. The outlet also noted that the fine was equal to the amount prosecutors had sought as punishment.

Although the 31-year-old rapper has not publicly commented on the fine as of press time, Suga has the right to request a formal hearing within seven days of the ruling if he wishes to challenge it, according to the news outlet.

The K-pop idol was first charged by South Korean police in early August for violating traffic regulations by driving an e-scooter under the influence of alcohol. Following his accusation, both BTS's label Big Hit Music and Suga issued official statements and apologized to fans regarding the incident.

He was later summoned to Seoul's Yongsan Police Station for questioning on August 23. Suga then issued a formal apology for the second time on Weverse days later, writing that he had “made a grave mistake.”

“Because of my negligence, everyone I care about is going through a difficult time. I will spend my life reflecting on this and striving not to commit such transgressions again,” he added.

Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, is currently completing his military service as a social worker. His official dismissal at the end of the two-year period is scheduled for June 2025.
