Although unconfirmed, it looks like a number of Project Rene leaks have surfaced on The Sims Reddit. To show off the sim creator, you can write a bio for your virtual friend, dress him up in different clothes, and send him to work in a Parisian neighborhood.

It definitely looks more expansive with a vibrant neighborhood, but it looks like monetization will be an important part of the game. Interestingly, there is a reference to Project Rene being a mobile game: “The functions in this app do not necessarily reflect the content of an upcoming Sims game.”

There were already fears that Maxis would try to make a game that would work on both PC and mobile, with the former likely to be affected by the latter. This wasn't the only problem as the OP stated the “disgusting“Graphics and “Pixar” look of these Sims.

One disgruntled player wrote: “Looks like a microtransaction hub, with a page of subscription-based weekly outfits, probably Battlepass-like items.” Another said: “When I saw the coins next to the outfits, I gave up all hope that this would be good 🙄,” and a third concluded: “People always joked that EA would get around to this one day, but now it could happen. Sad what the future of the Sims could be.”

While it's high time for The Sims to evolve, a future full of microtransactions is one that's sure to unsettle fans. Being free-to-play is one thing, but when that comes with having to spend real money just to change your t-shirt, you can bet players will have something to say about it.

In particular, there are numerous complaints that Project Rene doesn't look like a new generation sequel to The Sims. It's important to remember that these leaks, while legitimate, come from an early version of the game. The jury is still out on whether Project Rene can bring the Sims back in a big way, but for now we're still keeping an open mind.
