Man who stabbed roommate jailed for attempted murder

A man who went on the run after repeatedly stabbing his housemate has been jailed.

Alfid Kalid, 25, stabbed the man he shared a room with at their home in Laverstoke Court, Derby, in September 2023.

After escaping, he was arrested and told Derbyshire Police that he had stabbed the man in revenge for a reported attack – police claims were never confirmed.

Kalid, of Peet Street, Derby, was found guilty of attempted murder and sentenced to 19 years in prison at Derby Crown Court on Wednesday.

Police said Kalid stabbed his victim so badly that the gun was lodged in his back.

Det Ch Insp Greg McGill said: “The fact that Kalid’s victim did not die that day is down to sheer luck, but also the quick actions of emergency services who were first on the scene.”

“The excuse made by Kalid that he was attacked was investigated and no evidence was found to support his claim.

“Even if he had been a victim himself, his actions were wrong and almost resulted in a young man almost losing his life.”
