DETROIT – Two people died on Sunday evening after, according to police, a wrong-way driver crashed head-on into a car.

Michigan State Police said there were initial reports of a driver going the wrong way on northbound M-10 near Evergreen. Shortly thereafter, an accident was reported in the same area.

According to police, a 74-year-old man drove the wrong way on the highway and crashed head-on into a car. The wrong-way driver died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the struck car, a 74-year-old from Dearborn, was taken to a local hospital – where he later died. According to police, no other cars were involved.

“Metro North Troopers will continue to investigate this crash,” said F/Lt Mike Shaw. “It is currently unclear where the wrong-way driver entered the motorway and whether impairment played a role. The investigation depends on vehicle inspections and coroner reports.”
