Hottest September temperatures ever recorded in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Today we broke another heat record.

The Phoenix area recorded a high of 117 degrees. This is by far the last temperature ever recorded in a calendar year of 117 degrees. It surpassed the previous daily high of 108 in 1992.

It's also the hottest September temperature ever recorded for Phoenix. We expect the record to last another week.

Yes, that's right. Today was the fourth day in a row that Phoenix hit a record high. It's entirely possible that the streak of 10 or 11 consecutive days of record highs will continue into next weekend.

The excessive heat warning for greater Phoenix and western Arizona is scheduled to end after Tuesday but could be extended through Wednesday. That's the least of our worries at this point.

We will see temperatures weakening over the next few days, if you can call it that. The high temperature for Sunday is forecast at 113 degrees, and Monday will be around 110 degrees.

While the final number won't be announced until Monday, it seems a safe bet that September 2024 will be another record for the Phoenix Heat. Maybe we can get off this train next month.
