Three people arrested during Chase Field House excursion – first state update

Wilmington police have arrested three juveniles following a physical altercation in the 400 block of Garashes Lane.

Officials said the incident occurred around 12 p.m. Friday when officers responded to reports of large disorderly groups in the area. Upon arrival, police encountered several groups of juveniles engaged in physical altercations.

A 16-year-old woman, a 16-year-old man and a 15-year-old man were then taken into custody. Two of the teens were treated at a hospital for exposure to pepper spray, while the third teen was treated for a minor head injury.

The 16-year-old girl was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct before her release. The two male juveniles, aged 16 and 15, were each charged with disorderly conduct and also released.

In an email to parents, the Christina School District said the altercation occurred during a field trip to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) college fair at Chase Field House, attended by students from Christiana High School, Glasgow High School and Newark High School were involved. The excursion was abruptly cut short when police and security forces intervened.

As the crowd dispersed, some Christina School District students suffered minor injuries and received immediate medical attention.
