YouTube blocks Adele, Green Day and Bob Dylan music videos over SESAC dispute |

Hundreds of videos with songs from major artists like Adele, Green dayBob Dylan, Nirvana and REM have been blocked in the US since Saturday, September 28, 2024, due to a dispute between YouTube and SESACa performance rights organization.
When viewers try to play certain music videos, they are greeted with the message: “This video contains content from SESAC.” It is not available in your country.” In at least one case, users were even presented with an ad before the video was blocked.
Interestingly, however, not all of these artists' videos are blocked. It's unclear whether the available videos are exempt from the dispute or whether they were simply overlooked.
However, YouTube clarified that this was due to the lack of agreement on the terms Royalty Payments with SESAC. The site publicly stated that it did its best, but the negotiation process with SESAC proved unsuccessful. According to YouTube, they were forced to remove content represented by SESAC from the platform in the US; Instead, they said they are committed to resolving the issue soon.
This is a repeat of a similar dispute earlier this year between Universal Music Group (UMG) and TikTok. Then, during the dispute, UMG removed songs from its music catalog from TikTok in a dispute over royalties for its videos. In the process, UMG pulled hits from artists including Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande from the popular video-sharing app and service as it held discussions with the service over royalties.
Both camps represent more than 35,000 songwriters and publishers and remain in dialogue with each other as they continue to try to work on a solution and regain access to the video files.
