1 dead, 7 others injured in chain reaction accident

LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (KAIT) – A chain accident sent seven people to the hospital and killed a Searcy woman.

The accident occurred at 3:58 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, on U.S. Highway 67 North in Lonoke County.

According to Arkansas State Police, four vehicles were stopped for a previous accident when the unknown driver of a 2009 Honda Accord failed to stop and struck a 2006 Volkswagen GTI driven by 55-year-old Fernando Farfan of Searcy, which triggered a chain reaction of another three vehicles.

A passenger in Farfan's car, 49-year-old Anadelly Villegas of Searcy, died in the collision.

Farfan and six others sustained injuries and were taken to UAMS for treatment.

Other victims included:

  • 37-year-old Ontario Allen of Pine Bluff, driver of a 2018 Toyota Tundra
  • 22-year-old Logan Smith of Little Rock, passenger in a 2018 Toyota Tundra
  • 29-year-old Gene Given, passenger of a 2018 Toyota Tundra
  • 41-year-old Lilbet Hernandez of Houston, Texas, driver of a 2012 Kia Optima
  • 35-year-old Vicente Gonzelez of Houston, Texas, passenger in a 2012 Kia Optima
  • 35-year-old Rafael Mejias of Houston, Texas, passenger in a 2012 Kia Optima

ASP did not release information about the driver of the 2012 Honda Accord or a 2012 Honda Crosstour involved in the accident.
