Orange man arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, killing cyclist in Huntington Beach – Orange County Register

On Monday morning, Sept. 30, a man was arrested in Huntington Beach on suspicion of killing a bicyclist after hitting her on Beach Boulevard, authorities said.

Huntington Beach officers were called to Beach and Glencoe Drive shortly after midnight and found an unresponsive 51-year-old Costa Mesa woman, police spokeswoman Jessica Cuchilla said.

The bicyclist was traveling southbound in the right lane toward Beach when he was struck from behind by a 2023 Ford Bronco driven by a 68-year-old Orange man, Cuchilla said.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she died.

The driver fled but was found by officers a short time later and arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, driving under the influence and hit-and-run, Cuchilla said.

The man was initially not identified by police.

The woman's identity was withheld pending notification of her relatives.
