Crash on Route 220 in Woodward Township snarls morning traffic | News, sports, jobs

Those motorcyclists and hundreds of other motorists leaving Williamsport on Route 220 South were stuck in traffic for about an hour when a Toyota RAV4 crashed at the entrance to a one-lane construction zone in Woodward Township around 10:20 a.m. Monday. According to state police, the southbound male driver struck a makeshift guardrail, rolled over and landed upright in the single lane. According to the township's fire department, the man suffered a hand and wrist injury and was able to exit the SUV on his own. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport. According to the fire department, there were no construction workers in the immediate vicinity of the crash site at the time of the accident. Traffic was unable to move until a tow truck arrived and picked up the vehicle. Just as the traffic jam was starting to move around 11:10 a.m., drivers were forced to move into the fast lane after a woman waiting in the line of cars in the right lane was unable to start her Nissan Altima and required roadside assistance.
