Leak: The Elektron Tonverk appeared on Reddit today; Could it be the successor to the hugely popular Octatrack sampler or Analog Four?

After the great interest in the Elektron Tonverk leak last week, the Swedish company has now stated in the Elektronauts forum that these are prototypes:

Hello, I thought we'd get in touch.

It's great to see the speculation in the threads, even if things occasionally get a little off track. At any given time, there are a number of prototypes in different stages of development. It would be strange if we didn't have one because we love building music machines. Some will eventually see the light of day, others will remain in the prototype stage.

Even though these are prototypes and not yet finished products, Elektron says there are new products in the pipeline: “But… we have other fun hardware things in the pipeline.” There's also a big update for Digitakt II coming soon, which brings Overbridge compatibility for the Groovebox sampler

And Overbridge for Digitakt II is soon ready, creating multi-streaming audio madness. So speak soon.

One thing is certain. With this statement, Elektron would like to dampen the hype and interest in Tonverk somewhat. I'm not sure if this will work since Tonverk is in development and already trademarked.

So it's not just a wild prototype, but a product in the planning phase. Let's see what happens in the next few months.

Update

Article from September 24, 2024

The name Elektron Tonverk has been circulating on the internet for some time. Elektron registered a trademark for it last February. There was hope for Superbooth 24 to be released. However, it didn't happen.

But now things are moving forward. Today the Elektron Tonverk was leaked on Reddit/Elektronauts.

Today some photos of the Tonverk surfaced. I am assuming the photos are real and not fake as they are otherwise very well taken. You'll see a device that looks like a Digitakt but with a wider form factor.

The details of the new Elektron device are not yet known. Not even a single one. Since an Octatrack sampler successor has been in the air for a while, this could be its successor. Or is it an Analog Four style synthesizer or a Digitone successor because there are buttons?

It could also be a hybrid device that combines the existing Digitakt II, Syntakt and Digitone engines. That would be interesting.

The image shows a 16-step sequencer, a 13-key keyboard, ten encoders and more. In the middle there is a display that says: Engine inactive. This suggests that there will be different engines. There are also buttons for audio and MIDI track, indicating that there will be 8 audio and 12 MIDI tracks.

The connectivity is exciting. They have a dual USB-C port, so maybe one for USB data and another host. Then you have an SD card slot, which may indicate the use of samples. There are four audio outputs as well as full MIDI I/O.

At this point we can only speculate what it could be. I think it will be a kind of successor to the Octatrack or Analog Four. This is just my speculation, so we'll see.
