Man arrested after high-speed chase ended in crash on high school football field

(KNSI) – A man is facing felony charges after he allegedly led police on a high-speed chase and crashed into a fence at a high school football field.

According to a news release, a Morrison County sheriff's deputy attempted to stop the driver on Highway 115 near Camp Ripley around 10:20 p.m. Sunday night. The vehicle had expired tabs and a loud exhaust. The driver fled, reaching a speed of 99 miles per hour. The driver traveled south on Highway 371 before exiting onto Highway 27 in Little Falls. At this point, the deputy discontinued the pursuit for public safety reasons.

Police were told to be on the lookout for the vehicle before it appeared in the parking lot of Little Falls Community High School. Officials say when the driver saw the officer, he sped toward the soccer field and crashed into the fence.

The 32-year-old driver, of Hewitt, was arrested and booked into the Morrison County Jail on suspicion of first-degree criminal damage to property, driving after revocation, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle and fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance.
