Boca Raton man killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-95 Sunday

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – A 22-year-old Boca Raton man was killed after his vehicle crashed into the bed of a semi-trailer on Interstate 95 early Sunday, leaving the front of the vehicle trapped under the truck, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

The driver of the semi-trailer – a 36-year-old man from Margate – was not injured.

The accident between a tan 2005 Honda CR-V sports utility vehicle and a red 2019 Volvo VNL semi-trailer occurred around 3:45 a.m. Sunday on the State Road 60 overpass, mile marker 147, west of the city limits from Vero Beach. Both vehicles were traveling southbound in the outside lane.

Police said the SUV was following the semi-trailer. The front of the SUV collided with the back of the semi-trailer, trapping the front of the vehicle under the trailer.

The driver of the Honda was taken to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce, where doctors pronounced him dead, troopers said. Troopers briefly closed the southbound lanes of I-95 to investigate the crash site.

The fatal wreck remains under investigation.
