Domestic violence survivors, family members gather for Bangor murder victim

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – A walk will be held in Bangor on Tuesday in memory of 39-year-old Virginia Cookson, who police say was killed by her ex-boyfriend last week.

Finding Our Voices is asking the public to gather outside the Charles Inn on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

The group says it will “come together to express outrage over the murder of Virginia Cookson and the early release from prison of the DV felon now charged with murder.”

They say survivors will walk up and down Main Street with protest signs bearing their signature yellow at 2 p.m

They hope as many people as possible will join them to show support and raise awareness of domestic violence.

Following the walk, they will hold a “Survivor Speaks Panel” discussion at Eastern Maine Community College from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month and the organization hosts numerous events across the state.
