WT Forum Introduces DEA Agents to Panhandle Drug Prices

CANYON, Texas (KFDA) – WT's Criminal Justice Program will welcome a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent to its community forum on drug rates in the Panhandle on Wednesday.

According to WT, Amarillo-based DEA agent John Beasley will speak at the “Getting High?” Let’s Talk About Drugs” forum.

The forum will be held in Legacy Hall in the Jack B. Kelley Student Center from 6 to 8 p.m.

During the event, Beasley will discuss drug prevalence rates in the area, as well as resources to reduce fentanyl death rates and drug identification tips.

According to WT, Beasley helps train law enforcement, doctors and educators to recognize signs of drug abuse and respond to such cases.

“The community as a whole would also benefit enormously from this training, so we are pleased that he can give this talk at WT. “He is a passionate, informative speaker who is originally from our area and wants to continue to work with the community on harm reduction strategies and prevent and stop the spread of illicit drug use,” said Criminal Justice Officer Jeanette Arpero Bissoni.

The forum will also feature Cenikor Behavioral Treatment Center and Heath Dodgen, who lost his son Kaiden Taylor Dodgen to an acute fentanyl overdose in 2020.

“This will be a powerful presentation full of information for WT students and the entire community,” said Apero Bissoni. “Fentanyl is a particularly deadly drug and this area urgently needs more information to prevent further deaths.”
