An accident and vehicle fire near Salix, IA results in the death of a man

WOODBURY COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) – One person has died after a vehicle caught fire following a crash near the town of Salix in northwest Iowa.

According to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 10:50 p.m. on Friday, September 27, a two-vehicle accident was reported in the 2800 block of Old Highway 75, south of Salix.

According to the preliminary investigation, 32-year-old David Narciso was traveling north on Highway 75 when his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a vehicle traveling south on the highway.

The southbound juvenile was able to exit his vehicle and was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

According to the sheriff's office, Narciso was trapped in his vehicle, which subsequently caught fire. Narciso suffered serious injuries and was taken to a Sioux City hospital, where he later died.

This accident remains under investigation, but the Sheriff's Office believes alcohol may have been a factor.
