Daniel Krug (Broomfield Police Department)

According to an affidavit, in October Broomfield police responded to reports of harassment from Kristil Krug, who believed she had received threatening and explicit messages from an ex-boyfriend.

Kristil Krug and her ex-boyfriend broke up in 2000 after dating for just over a year. Over the next few years, she told officials that her ex contacted her at least four times and the messages included suggestions for sexual encounters and rude comments. The affidavit states that she had not previously reported him because he stopped communicating when she did not respond.

On October 2, Kristil Krug received a text message that police said came from Daniel Krug posing as an ex-boyfriend. In the message, he offered to meet with Kristil Krug to “exchange ideas.” When she didn't respond, another text message insulted her on October 3 and urged her to commit suicide.

Kristil Krug received eight additional text messages and emails threatening her and her husband and containing photos of them and personal information.

In another message from November 13th, Daniel Krug threatened, saying that he had neither “deserved” nor “satisfied” his wife and that he could “save” her.

Around noon on December 14, Daniel Krug contacted police and said he was worried he couldn't reach his wife. During a welfare check, police found Kristil Krug in the garage with a “significant wound” near her right temple. Preliminary information from her autopsy shows she suffered two or more blunt force injuries to the back of her head and a stab wound to the left side of her chest, according to the affidavit.

Police later determined that the ex-boyfriend was near his home in Utah at the time of Kristil Krug's death, the messages had been sent from a Wi-Fi network near Daniel Krug's workplace, and all surveillance cameras were in Daniel Krug's home The house was turned off at the time of the incident.
