West Long Branch, NJ – Unlike Willie Nelson, the Fordham football team can wait to hit the road again in 2024. The Rams, playing on the road for the fourth time in their first five games and in the rain for the second time in their last three, found the road to Monmouth University to be anything but friendly as they fell to the Hawks, 63-21, in the damp Kessler Stadium.

The loss drops the Rams to 0-5 on the year, while Monmouth improves to 3-2.

Senior running back Julius Loughridge Led the Fordham offense and ran 24 times for 97 yards and two scores as a junior quarterback Jack Capaldi He passed 11 times for 72 yards and threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to the freshman receiver Jack Freeburg.

Defensive, second-year defensive back Nate Lindsey Gill As a sophomore linebacker, he recorded seven tackles, five solo, and forced a fumble Mike Courtney ended with six stops, five solo stops, including one for a loss.

The game started on the wrong foot for the Rams as Monmouth returned the first kickoff 100 yards for a score, one of two kickoff returns for a score for the Hawks.

The Rams responded immediately, marching 72 yards in 13 plays, with Loughridge receiving the ball from the nine to tie the game with 8:45 remaining in the quarter.

But Monmouth scored on its next four possessions to take a 35-7 lead with 9:48 left in the half before Loughridge capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive with an eight-yard scoring run to close Fordham's deficit 35 reduced -14 with just under five minutes left in the second quarter.

The Hawks took the game-winning kickoff 79 yards for the score, making it 42-14 at halftime, and extended the lead to 63-14 in the fourth before Capaldi connected with Freeburg in the end zone, to seal the score.
