UConn basketball recruiting: Top-5 SG Darius Adams commits as first member of Huskies' 2025 class

Four-star Class of 2025 recruit Darius Adams made his long-awaited commitment to the UConn Huskies and coach Dan Hurley on Monday in a live ceremony broadcast exclusively from CBS Sports headquarters. Adams, one of the top five shooting guards in the country and the 22nd overall recruit according to 247Sports, chose UConn over finalists Tennessee and Michigan.

The 6-foot-2 Adams hails from high school talent factory La Lumiere in Indiana, where he built a reputation as a versatile combo guard who can create, score and defend at a high level. He is coming off a breakthrough summer on the EYBL circuit, averaging 15 points per game and showcasing his scoring ability inside and outside the arc.

Adams is a skilled and fluid guard with good positional size at 6'3″ and an instinctive feel for the game. He is a multi-dimensional scorer who can execute three-pointers and mid-range pull-ups in different ways.

Adams can also read with the ball, allowing him to break away from screens and get to his midfield game if the defense plays him that way. Combine that with his reliability as a passer, and he has the type of ground game that should fit well into the offensive structure at the next level.

The untapped potential lies in his body and the amount of raw power he plays with. He's still growing into his body a little and doesn't always have the same athletic drive as other top young talents. However, once this frame clicks, it could unlock new aspects of his offense, helping him play contact more consistently and making him more efficient in lane. Right now he can move the ball fluidly in the open floor, but he doesn't put pressure on the rim and doesn't finish as well in a half-court game.

The added physicality can only help on defense too. His size and intellect are both advantages, while he also has very good hands and a high steal rate, but would only increase versatility with more power and explosiveness.

Overall, Adams is a talented, smooth, intelligent player with good size, and his best basketball is still ahead of him as he continues to progress physically.

Adams is UConn's first commitment in the 2025 cycle and the building block of a potentially outstanding class for the Huskies.
