“Rich Homie Quan 'Song Cry' Video Released Posthumously”

After Rich Homie Quan died on September 5th at the age of 33, his friends, family and the hip-hop community are still grieving.

The song was previously shared during Quan's funeral, and now the rapper's team and family have released a music video for his posthumous single “Song Cry.” Rich Homie Quan had already begun filming the MarcellJB-directed video before his death, so there are scenes of him partying and in the studio mixed with darker moments from his funeral, livestreamed from World Changers Church International in College Park was transferred to Georgia.

Features footage from Boosie Badazz and DC Young Fly, as well as a behind-the-scenes video of Quan's interview with Funny Marco. The video ends with his family and friends rapping his songs at a party after his memorial service.

The song's chorus is heartbreaking considering how young the rapper was when he died. “I had to put on dark sunglasses to hide these tears/And I don't put on the 'gram 'cause that's how boys get killed/I bought a mirror last week so I can face my fears/Living this lifestyle.” I really “I can’t fake this,” he raps in the rhythm that made him a star.

September 17 – the day he was buried – is now Rich Homie Quan Memorial Day in Atlanta.

The cause of Rich Homie Quan's death is not yet known. The Fulton County coroner performed an autopsy the day after his death but said further testing was needed. “The cause and manner of death remain to be determined through laboratory tests and microscopic examination of tissue sections,” the investigator said 11Alive.
