Experienced BASE jumper killed near Willard Peak in Box Elder County

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah – An experienced BASE jumper wearing a wingsuit was killed following an incident in the Willard Peak area of ​​Box Elder County.

The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office reported that the body of 27-year-old Jonathan Bizilia of Alabama was found and recovered Friday after a friend reported that he had failed to check in after a jump.

After identifying potential jump locations and flight paths, a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was able to find Bizilia's body about a mile northeast of Willard Peak in what it described as “extremely rugged terrain” around 4 p.m.

The helicopter was used to lift Bizilia's body from the mountain.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office and Weber County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue participated in the rescue effort.

Bizilia's social media pages feature various videos of him jumping in wingsuits and parachutes.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends during this challenging time,” the sheriff’s office wrote.
