2024 MLB Playoffs Series: Complete postseason picture, matchups as Mets and Braves clinch final spots

The Major League Baseball playoff round for 2024 has finally been determined. The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves clinched the final two postseason spots on Monday, leaving the Arizona Diamondbacks on the outside of the playoff picture. The Mets won a wild first game of a crucial doubleheader in Atlanta to secure their spots. The Braves regrouped and won Game 2, becoming the 12th and final playoff team.

The Braves, Mets and D-Backs all finished with 89-73 records. The Braves secured the tiebreaker against both teams and will be No. 5 in the standings. The Mets won the tiebreaker against Arizona and are the No. 6 seed. The Braves face the Padres in the Wild Card Series, while the Mets travel to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers.

In the AL, the Astros (seeded No. 3) host the sixth-seeded Tigers in the Wild Card Series. The no. 4 Orioles receive the No. 5 Royals, who topped the Tigers with a win over the Braves in the regular season finale on Sunday. The Yankees secured the No. 1 seed in the American League and their home game through the ALCS. The Yanks and second-seeded Guardians have first-round byes and begin play in the ALDS.

In the National League, we knew the top four seeds entering Monday: No. 1 Dodgers, No. 2 Phillies, No. 3 Brewers and No. 4 Padres. The Dodgers have home-field advantage throughout the postseason as they posted the best record in baseball. The Phillies also have a bye in the first round.

The Wild Card Series will all be hosted by the higher seeded teams and will end on Thursday, October 3rd. The LDS round begins on Saturday, October 5th. The League Championship Series begins on Sunday, October 13th. And the World Series begins on either Tuesday, October 22nd or Friday, October 25th.
