Fourth-grader was arrested for allegedly bringing a gun to school in Prescott Valley

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (AZFamily) — A fourth-grade student in Prescott Valley was arrested Monday morning for allegedly bringing a gun to school.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., Prescott Valley Police responded to the main campus of Acorn Montessori School and met with a student who was reportedly found with a firearm. According to police, the student admitted to bringing the gun to the charter school.

“The student cooperated and said he brought the firearm to show off and that there was no immediate threat to students or staff,” Prescott Valley police said in a social media post.

Police added that the gun was not loaded and the student had no ammunition. The student was taken into custody.

“Parents and guardians are encouraged to talk to their children about the incident and the importance of gun safety,” the department continued. “We understand that this can be a frightening experience for many.”

The incident remains under investigation.
