A Massachusetts man allegedly tried to run people over in a road rage incident

crime

Alan Stec faces 17 charges in connection with the road rage incident in Brockton District Court, documents show.

Police arrested a man Sunday for a suspected road rage incident, East Bridgewater police said in a statement.

Alan Stec, 61, was driving near 555 Washington St. when he allegedly struck another car and attempted to hit several pedestrians crossing the street, police said. Officers allegedly found Stec in a damaged car. Stec refused to stop for police and drove into a meadow, narrowly avoiding a collision with oncoming traffic, the statement said.

Stec then allegedly drove into the backyard of a nearby home and refused to stop the car, police said. He allegedly continued to drive behind the house and tried to flee the police on foot. Police said they ordered Stec to stop several times, at which point an officer verbally abused him.

Police said Stec allegedly spit on officers after they arrested him.

Stec is currently facing 17 charges, including eight for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Additional charges include failure to stop when ordered, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He pleaded not guilty, court documents show.

The statement from East Bridgewater police said Stec was being held on $250,000 bail. However, that bail was revoked on Monday. Prosecutors filed an affidavit alleging Stec committed the crimes Sunday as he was released and awaiting a separate trial. He was previously charged with intentional damage to a motor vehicle, according to court records.

Stec's representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
