Police recover six pounds of drugs from a man's possession in Hawaii after an accident

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A crash in Kailua-Kona early Monday led to the arrest of a man accused of multiple traffic and drug offenses.

Police were called to the single-vehicle accident at approximately 1:35 a.m. on September 23rd. A vehicle reportedly drove through the intersection of Kaiwi Street and Ma'a Way.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Omar Avina-Becerra, was in the vehicle with a female passenger.

When officers arrived at the scene, they reportedly found more than 2 pounds of marijuana, over 1.5 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms and 15 grams of cocaine. He also had a large sum of cash.

Further searches of the vehicle uncovered additional quantities of marijuana, cocaine and Ecstacy. According to police, a total of around six pounds of drugs were seized.

Avina-Becerra now faces a number of charges, including at least 13 counts of drug offenses, driving without a license and no car insurance.

His bail was set at $155,000 and he was scheduled to make his first court appearance last week.
