Kelsey Rey on The Voice: From Season 1 to Felsmere in Season 26

Season 1 of The voice debuted on April 26, 2011 with coaches Adam Levine, CeeLo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. The series has evolved over the course of 13 years and 26 seasons, but the core idea and dream that drives it remains the same.

Watch the pilot again and you'll see 20-year-old Kelsey Rey among the blind auditions. Rey sang “American Boy” by Estelle and received a three-chair turn from Levine, Aguilera and Green. She ended up on Team CeeLo and was eliminated in the battles when she sang Natasha Bedingfield's “Unwritten” against the Thompson Sisters. That was the end of her career The voicebut not forever. Now, with more than a decade of additional living and performing experience, she returns, renamed Felsmere, for another shot at stardom.

Meanwhile, Felsmere (aka Kelsey Rey) sings “Some Kind of Wonderful.” The voice Blind auditions

“In Season 1 I was young and shy. I’m coming with a new sound and I hope the coaches love it,” Felsmere said before taking the stage. Her performance began in the dark, almost as if the singing behind the coaches wasn't secret enough, as she delivered a lively rendition of “Some Kind of Wonderful.”

“I was actually in the first season of The voiceFelsmere confessed after completing her blind audition. “CeeLo, Adam and Christina turned around for me. I was eliminated after the battle round, but I learned so much when I was only 20 years old. It was the best experience of my life.” Since Felsmere left Season 1 of The voiceShe has been spending her time writing and producing music in preparation for her triumphant return.

Michael Bublé was the first coach to approach Felsmere's smoky, jazz-influenced vocals. Gwen Stefani soon followed. Felsmere earned a two-chair turn, but it was almost three (though Snoop Dogg apparently refrained from doing so for strategic reasons).

“I always try to find people who have big dreams that I've already lived, that I can coach and figure out how they can find their identity through these songs. I feel like it would be great for me to hang out with you and find out who you are and I would love to have you on Team Gwen,” Stefani said.

“You’ve got this jazzy thing going on. For me that means that you can move between the pop and jazz worlds. You are perfect with your runs. You have a really sweet tone. Whoever you choose, you will be great on this show,” Bublé said.

Ultimately, Felsmere chose Team Gwen. “Felsmere came to the first season of The voice, and now she’s back for season 26,” Stefani said. “Everything she tried, she landed. She is consistent and her tone is simply undeniable. I'm really looking forward to choosing songs for her.
