'A man who managed almost 9,000 runs…': Sunil Gavaskar is unimpressed with India's batting order after Virat Kohli was demoted

The Indian cricket team displayed an aggressive batting style on the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur. India reached a total of 285 for the loss of nine wickets in 34.4 overs and decided to declare their innings after securing a 52-run lead. Thanks to their attacking approach, India managed to achieve the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 runs in Test history.

However, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar didn't seem too impressed with the batting order.

“You are talking about a man who has scored almost 9,000 runs in Test cricket batting at No. 4,” Gavaskar said while speaking JioCinema.

Gavaskar was referring to a change in Virat Kohli's position in the batting order.

After the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, it was expected that Kohli would step in next but that wasn't the case. Instead, it was Rishabh Pant who entered the field.

The decision did not pay off as Pant returned to the dressing room and scored nine runs from 11 deliveries. Kohli came in at number five and hit 47 off 35 balls in the first innings of the second Test.

Kohli achieved a significant feat during his stay. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar to become the fastest player to score 27,000 international runs.

Kohli achieved this in his 594th innings while the 'Master Blaster' had set the record in 623 innings.

Besides Kohli and Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara and Ricky Ponting are the other two cricketers to have achieved this record.

Sri Lanka legend Sangakkara needed 648 innings to reach the milestone. Australia's legendary captain Ricky Ponting broke the mark in 650 innings.

Jaiswal was in outstanding form, the young Indian opening batsman scored 72 runs off 51 balls to help the Indians win. KL Rahul also chipped in with a crucial 68 additional runs off 43 deliveries.
