Man arrested for allegedly stabbing woman behind needle exchange facility

LOVELAND, Colo. — A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing a woman in the alley behind a needle exchange facility in Loveland.

According to Loveland police, officers were dispatched to a stabbing in the 1000 block of North Lincoln Avenue on September 23 just after 1 p.m. The 911 caller told the dispatcher that there was an argument between a man and a woman, and the two walked off in different directions.

Loveland police said an officer in the area was stopped and reported that a woman had been stabbed. The officer provided aid until medical personnel arrived.

The woman was taken to the hospital and treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.

Investigators learned the altercation occurred in the alley behind Peer Connect, a needle exchange facility. Loveland police said the man and woman knew each other and were known to staff at the facility.

Authorities identified the man as Charles Walley, 48, of Loveland. He was arrested Sunday on a charge of second-degree assault.

Loveland police said an officer was responding to another call on a bike path when he recognized Walley.

“I am pleased that this suspect was taken into custody without incident and appreciate the situational awareness skills of our officers. I am also grateful for our community’s unwavering support,” Loveland Police Chief Tim Doran said in a statement.
