Dog Blocking His Brother's Door Goes Viral: 'Classic Sibling Moment'

A dachshund has sent internet viewers into a frenzy after he blocked the dog door with his bum and refused to let his brother through.

Kiya Grappo (@kiyaleesi) shared the hilarious footage on Reddit, where it quickly gained more than 1,100 upvotes on the popular r/Dachshund thread. The video shows their dog Archie stopping his brother Remy from going through the doggie door.

“I had heard Remy growling for a few minutes while I was making dinner before I looked over and saw what was going on,” Grappo said Newsweek.

“I started recording just as Remy had started barking at his brother. I'd never seen anything like that before, even though Archie loves sitting in the doggie door with his butt still inside. Normally he just moves when Remy wants out, but I guess he didn't feel it that night.

Archie's defiance became even funnier after a repeat offense occurred. “It's funny because after I captured that interaction on video, the same situation happened about a week later. “It seems that Archie, the younger but bigger of my two boys, is tired of being bossed around by his older but much older boy, brother Remy,” Grappo added.

In the clip, Remy can be seen barking in frustration as he tries to get Archie to move, but his sibling stays put and uses his butt as a doorstop.

Eventually, Grappo had to intervene to encourage Archie through the door so Remy could go through.

Dog doors are designed to provide comfort for both pets and their owners, giving pups the freedom to get in and out at will.

However, as seen in Archie's antics, dogs sometimes take full advantage of their access in creative and obstructive ways. When deciding whether a dog door is right for your home, it is important to consider security, weather, and the possibility of wildlife entry.

“Remy usually calls the shots in their relationship. I guess that could change. Archie is usually the more passive of the two. We like to say that Remy is the king of our house, basically everyone,” Grappo added.

Remy and Archie argue at the doggie door. The owner told Newsweek that she eventually had to intervene to help the former through the opening.

This dynamic of dominant and passive personalities is common in dog households. While dominance is not the same as aggression, it is more about which dog takes the lead in decisions and activities.

When viewers saw the video, they couldn't get enough of the hilarious sibling rivalry.

“It’s such a classic sibling moment. So adorable, thanks for sharing!” one user commented.

“This is great!!” added another, while a third shared a personal anecdote. “Omg [oh my God]. My youngest dachshund does this every day with her sister. It's so disgusting. Recently the older one has started doing it again and it's hilarious to see the younger one getting upset about it.”
