Maine man arrested for shooting at suspect's vehicle during police chase

ACTON (WGME) – Authorities say they have arrested a Maine man after he shot at a vehicle being pursued by police in Acton.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, police began a chase with a suspect in Milton, New Hampshire on Monday that continued all the way to Acton.

Before entering Maine, the suspect vehicle's tires were deflated after the driver ran over a spike mat in New Hampshire.

Around 9:15 p.m., officials said some Acton residents on Foxes Ridge Road attempted to assist New Hampshire authorities by setting up a roadblock.

According to officers, a local resident, 55-year-old Robert Sprague of Acton, was armed with a shotgun and fired at the suspect's vehicle. The shot hit the trunk lid of the vehicle.

Officers arrested Sprague and charged him with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon.

Sprague was taken to the York County Jail and later released on $2,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear Nov. 26 at the York Judicial Center.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, Milton police eventually arrested their suspect for eluding an officer.
